Paes and Dlouhy win men's doubles

Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy captured their first men's doubles title as a pairing at the French Open on June 6.

The Indo-Czech duo beat South African Wesley Moodieand Dick Norman of Belgium 3-6 6-3 6-2. While Dlouhy lifted his first major men's doubles title, Paes took his total to five.

"We started one year ago today so this is a very special day for us and I would like to thank Lukas," said the 35-year old Paes, who was cheered on by his former mixed doubles partner Martina Navratilova.

Sania scares Venus in a three-setter

Second seed Venus Williams needed three sets to beat battling Sania Mirza 6 1 3-6 6-2 in the second round of the Family Circle Cup on April 15.

After dominating the opening set, Williams found herself in trouble in the second with the 100th-ranked Indian producing some great defense to save 10 out of 11 break points while breaking the American twice.

Williams finally took control of the match in the third set, dominating Mirza to finally move on after a battle lasting almost two hours.

Tennis Leander Paes and Cara Black win U.S. Open mixed doubles title

Leander Paes and Zimbabwe's Cara Black won the mixed doubles title at the U.S. Open on September 4, beating Briton Jamie Murray and American Liezel Huber 7-6 6-4.

The fifth seeds saved two set points in the first-set tie break before breaking once in the second to clinch their first grand slam title together.

Black hit a crucial volley to save the first set point and Murray, who won the mixed doubles at Wimbledon in 2007 with Jelena Jankovic, netted a volley on the second.

Murray was the only man to lose his serve, in the fifth game of the second, and Paes served out for his eighth grand-slam title, while Black has now won seven, including three mixed.
